The rapid transformation of the quayside at Tanzania’s largest city is set to shake up trading patterns in East Africa.

Following DP World’s concession win last October, a consortium led by India’s largest port operator Adani Ports has also just been given the nod to develop a terminal at Dar es Salaam

Adani has been granted a 30-year concession to run Dar’s Container Terminal 2 which has four berths and an annual cargo handling capacity of 1m teu. The facility was previously won by Hutchison Ports.

DP World last year signed a 30-year concession agreement with the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) to operate and modernise part of the port.
